Jojoba Oil Benefits

Jojoba Oil Benefits

Jojoba is considered non-comedogenic, meaning it does not clog your pores. This is why it is so good for skin problems like acne, eczema, rashes, and infection.

Jojoba oil, pronounced ho-ho-ba, is made from the seeds of flowers on the Simmondsia chinensis plant. It actually is a liquid plant wax.

Today, most plants are grown in Mexico, Arizona, and California.

History of Jojoba Oil

The Jojoba plant was first cultivated in the Negev desert and Dead Sea in Israel.

Jojoba oil became very important in the 1970s when it replaced the banned sperm whale oil usage in cosmetic products.

This oil acts like a natural, non-toxic pesticide, controlling the growth of whiteflies on crops, and of mildew on grapes.

Jojoba is high in unsaturated fatty acids which gives it a long shelf life.

It contains Vitamin E and B complex with many great minerals, silicon, chromium, copper, zinc and is 82% iodine.

Benefits of Jojoba Oil

Jojoba is very similar to our own sebaceous glands, which produces our sebum or our natural oils.

This is why it is so good for the skin and our pores because it actually removes sticky sebum build-up of our excess body oils and keeps them in balance.

Jojoba helps:

  1. Hair loss or alopecia, or bald spots by encouraging the growth of hair follicles.
  2. Soothes sunburn and chapped skin.
  3. Clears up, acne and skin irritations like psoriasis, and eczema.
  4. Acts like an emollient for skin and hair, moisturizing and anti-aging for the skin.
  5. It can be used added to your other lotions or made into a homemade blend for a naturally healthy skin cream.

Research on Jojoba Oil

A study on Jojoba was published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, which has proven it is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-fungal. It is very effective for bacterial infections and wound healing.

The University of Maryland Medical Clinic did a study and found Jojoba with essential oils was effective in treating hair loss. They used a blend of Jojoba and Essential oils of lavender, cedarwood, and rosemary, massaging into the hair had great results.

In Summary

Try adding Jojoba oil to your skin and hair treatments. You can use jojoba by itself or add 10-20 drops of essential oil to make your own favorite smelling blend.

Then, massage or rub into affected skin areas or hair and scalp for effective results.
